How to treat frailty in the elderly.
Note that frailty can be completely reversed if the patient is comprehensively assessed in a multi-disciplinary approach and the underlying chronic conditions are appropriately treated and managed.
It is therefore important not to neglect the frail elderly, but to offer them a comprehensive assessment and treatment plan because they may be “fixable”
Sending a frail older person to a nursing home will not fix their frailty!
Remember that frailty is not a normal part of ageing!
That’s why 70% of older people are not frail!
Frailty indicates that the older person is very unwell.
These frail older people need holistic medical care which could result in spectacular improvements in their overall condition with proper medical diagnoses and treatment of their multiple underlying medical conditions.
