Mistaking the accelerator pedal for the brake pedal!

  • If an older driver reverses at high speed and crashes into a shop front or fence because they pressed the accelerator pedal instead of the brake pedal, then this definitely means they should not be driving!

  • It is just not possible to mistake the pedals in a car unless you are impaired in some way.

  • The brain and nerves in your legs are so in tune as to what you feel with your feet and where they are positioned that you can’t get this wrong.

  • Those impaired older drivers with dementia, on multiple sedative drugs, slowed reflexes and impaired peripheral nerve sensation in the feet should not be driving.

  • This is one big mistake, a warning sign where one strike and you are out- no more driving!
